Iron meteorites

Of the 1,063 observed falls in NASA’s Meteorite Landings dataset (records to 2013), 48 are iron meteorites: meteorites made mostly of iron-nickel metal. The same dataset holds 880 complete find records of this group, so seen falls make up 5.2 % of its records. Median recovered mass of the falls: 7.9 kg. The heaviest is Sikhote-Alin (23 tonnes, 1947). The earliest is Elbogen in 1399. The most recent is Kavarpura in 2006.

Bright dots: falls in this group. Faint dots: all other observed falls.
